Kunafa rolls with cream filling

Ingredienser:

  • 400g kunafa dough
  • 200g liquid butter
  • Syrup
  • Chopped pistachios for decoration

Ingredients for the cream filling:

  • 380g milk
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 small teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation:

Cream filling:

  1. Pour the milk into a saucepan and heat it over a moderate flame.
  2. Add sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract and stir until the mixture begins to boil.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.

Preparation of kunafa:

  1. Grease the bottom of a large baking tray and place the kunafa strands at the bottom.
  2. Brush the dough strands with liquid butter.
  3. Take a portion of the dough strands, about 20 cm long and 5 cm wide, and place a tablespoon of the cream at one end.
  4. Roll the strands into a roll. Repeat the process with the remaining dough.
  5. Grease the bottom of a baking sheet and place all the kunafa rolls next to each other, pressed tightly together in the tray.
  6. Grill them in the oven at 180°C until they turn golden brown.
  7. Add cold syrup immediately on the rolls when taken out of the oven and let them cool.
  8. Decorate with chopped pistachios on top for a beautiful appearance.
Note: You can also use other types of sweeteners as desired.
